Cliffs Of Moher & Matchmaking In Lisdoonvarna

Heading toward The Cliffs of Moher,  we stopped along the way to take in the breathtaking view.

We also briefly stopped in an interesting town called Lisdoonvarna.  I must admit that I’d like to spend more time here.  As you can see from the photos, it has a ton of character and full of Craic.

Lisdoonvarna  is a spa town of 739 people  in County Clare in Ireland. The town is famous for its music and festivals.

Although the music festival was discontinued in the 1980s, Lisdoonvarna still hosts an annual matchmaking festival each September. Europe’s largest matchmaking event is held in the town attracting upwards of 40,000 romantic hopefuls.

The Cliffs of Moher

The stunning views are  breathtaking.  Standing up to 702 ft above the Atlantic Ocean, it’s like stepping out onto the very edge of the world! The smell of the ocean stirs my distant childhood memories and suddenly the clamor of my soul is silenced in awe.

In the far distance is O’Brien’s Tower.

O’Brien’s Tower, a round stone tower near the midpoint of the cliffs, built in 1835 by Sir Cornelius O’Brien Mark’s the highest point of the cliffs.

After hiking back, we had a light lunch and shopped before continuing our journey which took us over to ride the Shannon Breeze ferry over to county Kerry and onward to Killarney.  Kerry Gold Butter is from here. Yum! I find it here in the US at Aldi’s.

Reaching our destination,  we stayed at the wonderfully charming Randles Hotel.  It was actually the site that we took our group photo.

There we are, a ragtag group of the fasted friends.  Reclining in the front, is our tour guide, Paul Keely.  I’m kneeling front righting black top, white pant and in the back row, behind me, you can see Clay’s bald head.

If you look to the bottom right, you can see his blue sneakers.  For the entire trip, Paul called him Kale blue shoes.  Lol. He was hilarious!
