The 6th Hour: Crucified

At the 6th hour of prayer (12 pm Noon)

He is crucified.

“My God, My God. Why hast thou forsaken me”  With this,  J-sus pronounced a chilling fulfillment of Psalm 22.

…But I am a worm and not a man,
    scorned by everyone, despised by the people.
 All who see me mock me;
 they hurl insults, shaking their heads.
“He trusts in the Lord,” they say,
 “let the Lord rescue him.
Let him deliver him,
 since he delights in him.”

Do not be far from me,
for trouble is near
and there is no one to help.

and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;
you lay me in the dust of death.

Many bulls surround me;
strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.
Roaring lions that tear their prey
open their mouths wide against me.
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint.
My heart has turned to wax;
it has melted within me.
My mouth is dried up like a potsherd,

Dogs surround me,
a pack of villains encircles me;
they pierce my hands and my feet.
All my bones are on display;
people stare and gloat over me.
They divide my clothes among them
and cast lots for my garment.

AT THE TEMPLE

The second lamb (The Passover Lamb)  is brought out and tied to the altar at high noon. [Mishnah: Tamid 4:1] NOON -1PM
The Passover Lamb is given a drink from a gold cup and remains near the altar until the time of sacrifice. (Ex 29:41; Mishnah: Tamid 3:4; 4:1G; Josephus, Against Apion, 2.8[105]).

As the passover lamb is tied to the alter and given a drink from a golden cup, Chr-st is nailed to the cross, given vinegar. Drinking from the cup we remember His prayer in the garden…
“My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

In the midrash, the blood of the Passover lamb symbolizes the sacrifice of Abraham’s son. G-d remembers Abraham’s willing sacrifice when he sees the lamb’s blood on the doorposts, and in the merit of Isaac’s willing self-sacrifice, He spares the blood-marked houses from death. Note: G-d provided His own sacrifice that day too. A foreshadow of Chr-st, the perfect lamb of G-d.

It is my burden he bears, my judgement, the sentence and wrath that was meant for me.

…And darkness fell upon the land from noon until the 9th hour.
